Newton Woman Faces DWI Charges

SPARTA — A Newton woman driving a vehicle with nonfunctional license plate lights was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

Jamie N. Garcia, 25, was also charged with failure to keep right and failure to maintain lane.

At approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, a Sparta police officer observed a 1999 Honda traveling on Sparta Avenue with nonfunctional license plate lights. The officer followed the vehicle and observed that the driver was unable to maintain a lane of travel and constantly crossed over the double yellow lines.

The officer stopped the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as Garcia.

According to police reports, the officer suspected that Garcia was operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol and conducted a series of field sobriety tests.

Garcia was transported to police headquarters, where she remained for several hours before being released to a sober adult pending a court date.
