Sparta Police: Hamburg Man Weaving In and Out of Lane Faces DWI

A Hamburg man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after being stopped on Route 15 for driving erratically. On July 23, around 10:40 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd saw Amin Ashlesh cross the white fog line and the double yellow lines several times, police report.

Herd pulled Ashlesh over and smelled an alcoholic drink when he approached Ashlesh to speak with him. Ashlesh, 52, was given a series of field sobriety tests by Herd and Cpl. Craig Grauerholz, police report.

Ashlesh was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. Ahslesh was charged with DWI, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to maintain a lane, failure to keep right.

Ashlesh was released to his wife pending a court date.
